Web-logs that Make You Think

I have been tagged by Mr. B. Johnson over at Western Orthodoxy to list five web-logs that make me think. Mr. Johnson was kind enough to mention this humble web-log in his list, though I would hardly think that anything I have to say here is worthy of much thinkin'. I post a great deal of mundane things that make me happy, such as roasting coffee. However, I hope that the summer will afford me more time to post more on more weighty matters relating to the ancient (and medieval) Near East.

So, without further delay, here are my five Thinkin'-Blogs.

1. The Ochlophobist - Without a doubt, my vote for the best Orthodox web-log. Owen's posts are meaty and challenging. I have especially enjoyed his posts on Orthodoxy and contraception, and his apologia for Orthodoxy.

2. Going Along - The web-log of a now former parishoner (which greatly saddens me). Gabriel has recently graduated from law school, and is preparing for the bar. He has an incredible command of literature ranging from political science to philosophy, to religion. While we disagree about many things, his thoughts on Orthodoxy are greatly challenging to me. He will be sorely missed around here (and especially his adorable son, Jonah).

3. Sarx - Huw Raphael's web-log, a popular favorite, has been of interest to me from the beginning of my journey to Orthodoxy. While the first two web-log's mentioned tend toward the conservative side of things, Huw tends toward the liberal, a fact that challenges me and makes me think. While I often disagree with much of what he says, it is good to here the other side of the issue.

4. Conversi Ad Dominum - The web-log of Fr. John Fenton of Holy Incarnation Orthodox Church, Detroit (Western Rite). Fr. John and his flock are new converts to the faith from the Lutheran church. Fr. John is a man of great intelligence and knowledge of the western Christian tradition. His posts are informative and spiritually beneficial. I often wonder if he has been reading my mail.

5. Western Orthodoxy - Benjamin Johnson is a great voice for the Western Rite Orthodox, often giving great insights into nature of WRO as well as keeping me up to date on WR news. His posts on the Western Rite are always informative, and make me think a bit deeper about it.

If thou wishest to be tagged, thou art tagged.

But I don't have cites on my web-log! :) However, the next time I post something controversial, I'm going to shove in photos of my son to distract the reader from my outright B.S.'ing. Next post: "Ancient Mid East Languages and their Grammatical Links to Klingon."
