Day 9 - 6/25/07
Warrior N212NA
.9 hrs dual
Today was more tower operations at Hooks. Radio communication was smoother, though I did miss a few details here and there. I was put in a few new situations, such as an extended downwind with the controller calling my base, flying both a left and a right pattern on both runways. My touchdowns were very smooth - for some reason, a hefty head wind helps me smooth out my touchdowns. The wind was, however, very rough - about 15 kts gusting to 19 out of the SSE - which made the flight very rough. My approaches and patterns were a bit off because of it. Landing back at Weiser was intense, with a 10 kt cross-wind component, though I nailed the landing.
I need to work on my approaches. In a situation with high wind, especially a crosswind, I need to carry a bit more power and speed in case a gust or shear should hit me. Also, on a crosswind takeoff, Daniel said that I need to correct for the crosswind with the rudder, not the ailerons, in order to keep the wings level. It seems that I tend to make my takeoffs like the famous Chinese pilot Wan Wing Lo.

Hello! Nice blog you got there. I kinda forgot how I stumbled onto it but I'm especially interested with your posts concerning your flight training. I too will be training in Weiser with MVP this August. I, however, am an international student from the Philippines. Though I'm pretty excited to meet all the pilots there at EYQ, I hope that I'd be able to fit in somehow. Do keep us posted on your progress. Blue skies always and God bless!

So, quick question: is the prairie sky there noticeably "high and wide" compared to the prairie sky (or non-prairie sky) in other places, or is it all just propaganda?
